This Christian faith painting was created during a deeply personal season—after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis and before undergoing surgery. He Has My Back reflects a quiet but steady truth: even in uncertainty, God is present.

It was one of those chilled March days when I received the call: “The test shows you have breast cancer.”

I sat there, holding my four-month-old lab, trying to take it in. At the time, I was in the middle of this painting. Before going into surgery in June, I felt compelled to finish it—and I named it He Has My Back.

What began as a simple, even slightly quirky self-portrait of me painting turned into something much deeper. Looking back, I can see that God was leading the process. There are moments as an artist where I feel a quiet nudge to follow—and this was one of them.

In the painting, I am working, focused on the canvas in front of me. Behind me stands the Holy Spirit, His hand resting on my shoulder—present, guiding, and near. The canvas represents life itself, where each brushstroke becomes a choice, an action, a reflection of what we leave behind.

The road in the piece speaks to the journey we all walk—one that eventually leads us into the arms of Christ.
